Spirit Signs
In John 6 Jesus provides bread and fish for a large hungry crowd. Then, after some rest, he comes walking on the water to help his disciples as they row against the wind, to trust.
These signs reveal God at work in Jesus for salvation, for love, for hope.
The Spirit of Christ comes among us today with signs. What signs have you noticed?
Quickel’s food stand out on Canal Road is a sign of God’s provision—we place food there from the church garden and others share food from their gardens and resources. The cemetery is a sign of hospitality for community members to remember departed loved ones—a place to pause, to walk, in gratitude. We offered VBS this week—the sign of a safe place for children to receive the Good News of God’s presence with them—in love. We are forming and renewing relationships with folks in our community. One final sign is the sharing of our building with Maranatha Church, an example of fellowship among Christians and good stewardship of our space.
Each of these signs, and many others, reveal God’s saving, compassionate work in and among us. These ministries are miraculous in that they reach beyond our personal potential. This is not God’s children saving the world by their brilliance, this is the Spirit bringing grace, mercy, and peace through an extension of many relationships. This sign of Christ’s love is enough. May we notice the wonder of God’s presence, and take courage. Amen.
